5th Jazzkara 2016 in Bacolod City
There’s so many events to look forward to in October, if you’re a pure blooded Ilonggo then this month is the highlight of your citizenship in this city. Mall shows, Art exhibit, Food fest and Music showdown are just some of the events that are in my calendar, and this Masskara season if you missed the annual Jazzkara event, here’s a scoop of that night full of Jazzers.
In line with celebrating the world-renowned Masskara Festival, the city also celebrates the annual Jazz Music Fest, JAZZKARA. Initiated by our homegrown Jazz Keyboardist “Michael John Tambasen”, if the name rings a bell then you are one with me, this guy made a name in Bacolod-Jazz scene and is one of the sphere heads in promoting local Jazz artist in the metro.
As a music teacher in West Negros University, Sir Michael may have the habit to do away with the traditional way of music teaching and explored the possibility of unlocking each students maximum potential with their skills in music in his own artistic way. In due time he has transformed the university’s Marching Band into a “small-semi-jazz-band” and passionately teaching the students to play various jazz styles of music, from standard to fusion. With having this idea in mind, this passion birthed into the music fest called “JAZZKARA”
As I sat there, 3rd row, 4th column of SMX Convention Center Bacolod, last OCTOBER 8, 2016, I am confident to say that JAZZKARA has come a long way. And now on its 5th leg and the lineup of local bands that showcased their passion for music was just too heart-pounding that if it was your first time to attend you have never thought that Bacolod City is blessed to have great musicians that we thought we can only find in other city or countries.
