Conquering Kabankalan City’s Mag-Aso Falls

I still have not gotten over how beautiful Sipalay is, (I am not sure I ever will) and here I am, taking the 8 pm trip back to Bacolod City, just to get more clothes, for another adventurous trip with some of the most adventurous people I know.

People in the south are just surprisingly generous, the culture is light, easy and simple. People in Sipalay are friendly and accommodating, never intimidated by my city girl look. (kidding!) But, of course, what captured my heart is the beautiful sunset. It is beautiful.

I will say it again, beautiful.

I will be back for your sunset, Sipalay.

So when I decided to take this trip to Kabankalan City, another city in the south, I was excited to go home and prepare for this trip.

Arrived in Bacolod before sunrise from Sipalay and without unpacking my backpack, grabbed one of my sling bags for a day trip to Kabankalan City. I was made to believe that we were just going to the Municipality of Ilog to eat oysters (they have the best) but the group decided to go to one of Kabankalan’s hidden treasures, Mag-Aso Falls.Believe me please when I say that Negros Island is unspoilt and have some of the country’s most interesting places to visit. I am again humbled by how many undiscovered treasures this island has.

How to get to Mag-aso Falls

Kabankalan City takes about 2 hour drive from Bacolod City – my first tip? If you’re planning to visit Mag-aso falls, take a private vehicle with you just like what we did. You may contact J3 Car rentals, brand new vans and negotiable prices. You may reach them through their mobile number: 09253594676

Here’s a short breakdown of what we paid for Transportation and Entrance Fee:

Van – 2000

Gas – 750

Entrance Fee at Mag-Aso Falls – 50

Not bad right?.

Taking a private vehicle is more practical for us because there are seven of us in the group. You can still opt to take the Ceres bus, though, if you are more adventurous.

  1. From Kabankalan Ceres Terminal (City Proper) take a tricycle ride going to Mercado (this is the wet Market)
  2. From Mercado, ride a jeepney heading to Mabinay Route
  3. Drop yourself off at the highway where it says “this way to Mag-aso falls”
  4. Take a tricycle going to Mag-aso falls.

Easy right?

I know I’ve been boasting about all the beaches in the south that I’ve been to during my past travels, but now let’s widen your options.

With its aquamarine water who could say No to such invitation. Again, I am not disappointed. Take extra careful, though, if you decide to swim as the water is way too deep. Cold, running, fresh water as long as you like! I will let the pictures show you how refreshing the water is.

Also for instagrammble worthy post (haha), the ground is little bit slippery and muddy so no need to rush in going from one spot to another just to take that picture perfect moment, better to be safe than sorry. (Right Cait haha )

If you are with kids, it is safe to have them enjoy the water in the resort’s swimming pool. The water in the swimming pool is still from the falls so still the same cool, refreshing and clean water, just safer for them.

Some side trips you can take before heading to Kabankalan City is to drop by at Mila’s Restaurant in Hinigaran City and try out the Seafood resto’s in Municipality of Ilog.

My quest for new beautiful places and uncharted waters has just started again, somehow, bravely putting myself out there on my solo travels. I’ve gained new friends, discovered new places and dared new adventures. Yet I have also lost some friends along the way but I know they are in a better paradise now.

I had the best time with these bunch, our trip was short, fun, and we even had some few bumps along the way but it simply showed how much faith we have in each other. Thank you guys for being surprisingly spontaneous with me.
